The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction is scheduled to take place on February 12 and 13 and in a situation like this multiple exciting and interesting incidents related to the mega auctions from the past are coming out.
2014 controversy
Former IPL Richard Madley recently recalled one interesting incident which had taken place back in 2014. Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was initially signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore at a whopping price of Rs 10 crores. But eventually it was realized that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had intervened just before Madley was about to officially announce RCB’s name as Yuvraj’s new franchise.
Later, the bid had to be started again from the beginning and RCB finally roped in Yuvraj by paying him Rs 4 crores extra and invariably these developments had annoyed RCB owner Vijay Mallya.
“I looked around the room and asked if everyone was all done now (when the bid was Rs 10 crore). I look all the way and there is nobody bidding. My hammer is up and the hammer came down,” auctioneer Richard Madley revealed while speaking to Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on YouTube.
Ashwin later asked if Yuvraj had offered Madley something for restarting the bid and in a reply to that question, Madley said that “not even a cup of tea” was offered to him.
Stats and numbers

In the bowling department also Yuvraj turned out to be pretty handy after he picked up 36 wickets in IPL at an economy rate of 7.44.
In the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj became the Player of the Tournament and because of his stellar show team India managed to win the World Cup 2011 which was played in India.
