'Full proof security is important for IPL matches,' says BCCI official after fans breached bio-bubble to click selfie with Kohli in Bengaluru

The IPL 2022 is slated to be held across four venues- Wankhede Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and MCA International Stadium in Pune and now In a big development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked Maharashtra government for full proof security during IPL matches.


Breach in bio-bubble

During Indian team’s last Test match against Sri Lanka the bio-bubble was breached after fans jumped into the ground to take selfie with former Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Considering an incident like this, it is understood that the BCCI has asked for tight security during the IPL matches.


“Since its covid time and players are in bubble we can't expect any breach which can lead to major issue in the camps. We have sent our SOP for IPL which everyone needs to follow strictly. Apart from this we have asked state government for additional security arrangements so that no instance like last match will happen again for us. It’s really important to keep bubble safe because safety of players is paramount,” a senior BCCI official said while talking to Sports Tak.


IPL schedule

The inaugural match of the IPL 2022 edition is scheduled to be played on March 26, between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai and the final match of the tournament will take place on May 29.


Mumbai Indians frachise led by Rohit Sharma will have Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Lucknow Super Giants in Group A of the 2022 edition of IPL.


On the other hand, Group B is comprised of defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans.

 

With the addition of two new teams, this year’s Indian Premier League will have 10 teams vying for the prestigious trophy. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants are two entrants.


Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya will be seen as the skipper of the Gujarat-based franchise. On the other hand, Indian batter KL Rahul will lead the Lucknow-based team in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
