Rajasthan Royals (RR) started their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign with a victory after scripting a 61-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 29 (Wednesday).
RR batters started their batting confidently as they registered a huge total of 210/6 in 20 overs. In reply, RR bowlers exhibited their supreme bowling skills to restrict their opponents within a total of 149 runs in 20 overs.
For RR, their Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna picked up two wickets in four overs, conceding 16 runs.
Shastri speaks
While talking about Krishna’s bowling, former India head coach Ravi Shastri said that “he was mean, he gave nothing.”
“He was relentless. If you’re bowling at lengths, the hard lengths, when you beat the bat and get the edges, you expect some odd ball (that may go loose). But he was mean, he gave nothing,” Shastri said on Star Sports’ post-match show.
“He made sure the batsmen have their driving licenses in their pockets. He said ‘I don’t want to see your driving licenses, I don’t want to give you anything on the bat. I’m going to ping you on the backfoot and get you out’,” the former India head coach further added.
Huge praise
Krishna claimed the wicket of SRH skipper Kane Williamson (2 runs off 7 balls) in the second over of the innings. Shastri recalled Williamson’s dismissal and praised Krishna saying “good to see an Indian banging it in against a world-class player.”
“Look at the way he got Williamson out. (Usually, bowlers would go) Top of off-stump, get the nick. He knew there was bounce there, and he said ‘I’ll take that nick to a foot-and-a-half, top of off-stump’. He’s got the height, he’s got the wrist and he’s got the seam coming out high. Good to see an Indian banging it in against a world-class player,” the 59-year-old former India cricketer recalled.
In the match, RR registered a huge total of 210/6 in 20 overs. Their skipper Sanju Samson showed terrific batting skills as he scored 55 runs off 27 balls. His innings was comprised of 3 boundaries and 5 sixes.
In response, the Hyderabad-based franchise could not start the run chase convincingly as they lost their first three wickets within just first five overs. Later, Aiden Markram (57 not out off 41 balls) and Washington Sundar (40 runs off 14 balls) tried to put up some fight but eventually their resistance turned out to be futile as the SRH could manage to reach a total of 149/7 in 20 overs.
