Qualifier 2 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season will see the Mumbai Indians (MI) take on the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 26.
Defending Champions GT have been forced to play in the Qualifier 2 after losing to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Qualifier 1. Meanwhile, MI, captained by Rohit Sharma, defeated the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the eliminator before flying to Ahmedabad. Now, the Qualifier 2 is to be played between MI and Gujarat on May 26. But, if rain comes and the match gets washed away, then which team will make it to the finals? Let's have a look:
What if rain affects the IPL 2023 Qualifier 2 between MI and GT
If there is rain in the match between MI and GT, and the match is cancelled and even a five-over per side game is not possible, the finalist will be decided by super over. The super over can start as late as 12:50 AM (May 27, Saturday). If there is no possibility of super over, then Hardik Pandya's GT will enter the final. This is because GT finished above MI on the IPL 2023 points table. MI made it to the playoffs with 16 points in 14 matches at a net run rate of -0.044, while GT made it through the league stage with 10 wins in 14 matches, 20 points and a net run rate of 0.809. In this context, GT will reach the finals as there is no reserve day.
Weather update in Ahmedabad ahead of IPL 2023 Qualifier 2 between MI and GT
According to the Meteorological Department, if we look at the weather in Ahmedabad on the day of Qualifier 2, there is hardly any chance of rain. This means that the fans will get to witness a close fight between GT and MI for a place in the final. Whichever team wins the all-important Qualifier 2 match will then get to face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2023 final to be held on May 28.
While the MI team is desperate to win the IPL title for the 6th time, GT would like to capture the coveted trophy for a second straight season in a row.
