On Friday, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 27 runs in the final of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and lifted their fourth IPL title in 12 seasons.
Prolific CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad clinched the Orange cap with 635 runs in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Not only the 24-year-old is the youngest to win the Orange cap but he was adjudged as ‘Emerging player’ of the tournament as well. Gaikwad along with his opening partner Faf du Plessis (633) played a vital role in helping CSK to lift their fourth IPL title.
In the final, the duo put up a decent opening stand of 61 in 8.1 overs.
After the win, the head coach of CSK praised Gaikwad for a terrific season.
“He’s an absolute superstar already in my eyes. When we introduced him last year, people were a little bit critical, but we were keeping a tab on him, and had very high expectations. What we didn’t understand was the effect that COVID would have. We really felt for him during last year, and we were really delighted that he finished off the season so well,” Fleming said in the post-match press conference.
“With him (Ruturaj) and Faf (du Plessis) scoring so many runs, it’s one of the real reasons we won the IPL. I couldn’t be more happy for Ruturaj. He’s a wonderful guy, and, for a young player, his maturity is beyond his years. I can’t speak more highly about Ruturaj and his combination with Faf, which was critical.” He added.
Moreover, the former New Zealand player said that CSK have done a lot of discussions about the next year's mega auction and they are looking forward to building another good side and carry CSK’s legacy.
