‘He’s been giving us quite a hard time in training’: Jason Holder on SRH’s new speedster Umran Malik

Indian cricket would be mighty pleased with the talents coming from their domestic circuit and the Indian Premier League (IPL). Umran Malik, the new pacer for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), has stole the headlines with his raw pace in just two games in the ongoing season.

Umran has only played two IPL games so far, but he seemed a serious threat for the batters. He has not only impressed his skipper Kane Williamson with his scorching pace and great line lengths, but he has also astounded Indian skipper Virat Kohli with his talent. According to Kohli, every year, the IPL produces unbelievable talents.

SRH's new speedster achieved the record for the fastest ball bowled by an Indian bowler in IPL history on October 7 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The 21-year-old produced a ball that clocked 152.95 kmph. The fourth delivery of his second over crated the record for the fastest ball bowled by an Indian in the history of the IPL and the fastest ball of this season so far.

Previously, Navdeep Saini held the record for the fastest  ball in IPL at a speed of 152.85 kmph in 2019, but the new sensation from Jammu & Kashmir has bettered his record.

When asked about Malik, his teammate Jason Holder revealed that he had a difficult time playing against him in the nets.

“I think the first thing to mention is his pace. That’s his biggest asset. He’s just been consistent in training and he’s been giving us quite a hard time in training. He has been very hard to get hold of. As you have seen in the games, he is obviously deceiving a lot of batters for pace. That extra pace always adds a boost to any bowling attack,” said the West Indian all-rounder at a post-match conference.

“It’s good to see his control as well. A lot of guys who have bowled quick over the years, sometimes, may seem erratic. But he has been pretty consistent and he has grouped really good deliveries together,” the SRH all-rounder added.

Last night, the Sunrisers ended their shaky season on a high note, defeating RCB by four runs. And, when the season drew to a close, they undoubtedly discovered a silver lining in the form of Umran Malik.
