Indian batter KL Rahul is going to lead the debutants Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The Lucknow-based franchise will start their IPL campaign against another new franchise- Gujarat Titans- on March 28, at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai.
In recent times plenty of debates have taken place regarding cricketers choosing franchise-based cricket tournaments instead of international cricket. In such a situation, LSG skipper KL Rahul, while talking to Sports Today, said that he does not think “any player would choose playing any league over their country.”
KL Rahul speaks
“I would not take away what IPL has done for Indian cricket. You must give credit to IPL for where we are as an Indian cricket team today in white-ball cricket. You must give credit to IPL for the platform that it has given the younger players and the way the younger players have grown and matured, playing with other international cricketers, testing their skills at this level, having the exposure of crowds and facing that pressure at such a young and early age- so you do learn a lot to grow quickly,” LSG skipper KL Rahul explained.
“But I do not think any player would choose playing any league over their country. Country always comes first for us. Yes, outside world might think otherwise but it really does not change how we look at ourselves and how we play the game,” Rahul further added.
IPL schedule
The inaugural match of the IPL 2022 edition is scheduled to be played on March 26, between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai and the final match of the tournament will take place on May 29.
