Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) Deepak Chahar has become the most expensive Indian bowler in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions. Chahar was roped in for a whopping Rs 14 crore by the four-time IPL winners after an intense bidding war with Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Overall, Chahar also became the joint third-most expensive player in the history of IPL auctions. The Agra-born cricketer has played 63 IPL games and picked 59 wickets at an average of 29.19 and an economy rate of 7.8 runs per over. With the bat, he has scored 79 runs from 12 innings including a high score of 39.

Chahar has proved himself as an all-rounder in the international circuit of late. He scored a quickfire half-century in a losing cause in an ODI against South Africa. Also, he scored a run-a-ball 38 against West Indies in the third ODI.

Earlier in IPL 2018 auction, Chahar was picked for Rs 80 lakh by CSK whereas in 2016 he was roped in for base price of Rs 10 lakh by now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants (RPSG).

Apart from Chahar, CSK picked Ambati Rayudu was picked for Rs 6.75 crore from the wicketkeeper-batter category. All-rounder Dwayne Bravo was picked for Rs 4.4 crore whereas Robin Uthappa was roped in for his base price of Rs 2 crore.

While defending champions CSK were able to get Chahar, they missed out on getting Shardul Thakur back to the side. Thakur was sold to Delhi Capitals (DC) for Rs 10.75 crore as the franchise exhausted a big chunk of their purse on Chahar.
