Mumbai Indians (MI) picked just four players on the first day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction. MI went after their core players in the auction but went all out for only one as Ishan Kishan became the second-most expensive player in the history of IPL auctions. On the second day of the mega auction Mumbai Indians signed pacer Jofra Archer for Rs 8 crore and all-rounder Tim David for Rs 8.25 crore

MI signed young Indian wicketkeeper-batter Kishan for Rs 15.25 crore. He is only behind former Indian player Yuvraj Singh (Rs 16 crore) on the most expensive Indian players' list. Ishan had played in 61 IPL matches and amassed a total of 1452 runs at a strike rate of 136.34. He has scored 9 half centuries in IPL so far.
Their second big pick of the auction was Dewald Brevis. South Africa's Under-19 batting sensation Brevis went for Rs 3 crore. He scored 506 runs from six innings in the recently concluded U-19 World Cup which is the most by a player in a single edition of U-19 World Cup, going past Shikhar Dhawan’s 505 runs in 2004 U-19 World Cup.
The two other picks for MI were uncapped Indian bowlers Murugan Ashwin and Basil Thampi for Rs 1.6 crore and Rs 30 lakh respectively.

Mumbai Indians team had decided to retain their captain Rohit Sharma (Rs 16 crore), Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah (Rs 12 crore), Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav (Rs 8 crore) and West Indies all-rounder Kieran Pollard (Rs 6 crore) for the 15th edition of IPL season.
Skipper Rohit Sharma has played in 213 matches for Mumbai Indians and scored 5611 runs. All-rounder Pollard on the other hand, had scored 3268 runs in 178 matches and had picked up 65 wickets. Bumrah has scalped 130 wickets in 106 matches, while Suryakumar Yadav has scored 2341 runs in 115 matches in his IPL career.
