IPL 2022: Bee attack on Mumbai Indians' players ahead of CSK clash

SportsTak

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) are already reeling on bottom of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) just a place above them. But right ahead of the clash between the two bottom-placed sides on Thursday, MI's recent training session had to be halted after an attack by bees. The players had to lay down to save themselves from the wrath of bee attack.

The Rohit Sharma-led side put out a video on Twitter of the players where they were seen lying on the ground, trying to save themselves from the attack by a swarm of bees.

The players aren't completely unknown to this situation and know how to prevent themselves in such a scenario.

The ongoing IPL 2022 season has been a difficult one for both Mumbai and Chennai. The match on Thursday, April 21 will give both sides a chance to get some momentum going as the tournament moves into the business end of the campaign.

A win over CSK will be a huge confidence booster for the five-time IPL Champions and can help them turn around their abysmal IPL 2022 campaign. A defeat here will put MI on the cusp of elimination and they will have to win their last 7 matches on the trot to keep their chances of making it to the playoffs alive.

Mumbai kicked off their journey with a stunning defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals. MI's next five defeats have come against Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants.

CSK are also struggling in the season and have only managed 1 win from 6 matches. Their win came against Royal Challengers Bangalore. A defeat here will push the Ravindra Jadeja-led side closer to an early elimination from the tournament.

Meanwhile, speaking ahead of their clash with Chennai on Thursday, bowler Jaydev Unadkat referred to the match as the "El Clasico of the IPL" given the two sides have won nine of the 14 previous editions of the tournament. However, like Mumbai, Chennai have struggled this season picking up just one win from their first six matches.

"Everyone knows MI and CSK are the most successful teams," Unadkat said. :From the outside, it is probably the El Clasico of the IPL. Both teams are going to come hard and it will be a good contest.
