IPL 2022: CSK all-rounder Moeen Ali gets visa; will miss first match against KKR

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Moeen Ali has got his Visa and the English all-rounder is set to reach Mumbai on March 24 (Thursday).


But Moeen will not be able to play the first match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as he will have to be in quarantine and the the 34-year-old all-rounder will also have to follow Covid protocol.


“Moeen has got the Visa and he will be reaching Mumbai today. He will not be playing first match because he will follow Covid protocol and remain in quarantine,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told sports Tak.


CSK's retained players

Earlier, CSK had decided to retain four players ahead of the mega auction for the 15th edition of IPL. Skipper MS Dhoni, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, English all-rounder Moeen Ali and Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad were the four cricketers retained by Chennai Super Kings.


The MS Dhoni-led CSK will play in the inaugural match of IPL against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 26, at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai. The final match of the IPL is slated to be played on May 29.


Mumbai Indians franchise led by Rohit Sharma will have Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Lucknow Super Giants in Group A of the 2022 edition of IPL.


On the other hand, Group B is comprised of defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans.


New entrants

With the addition of two new teams, this year’s IPL will have 10 teams vying for the prestigious trophy. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants are the two new entrants.
