It proved to be a double whammy for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) when right after the 18-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Tuesday, skipper KL Rahul was found guilty of breaching Indian Premier League (IPL). Not just this, Rahul's teammate Marcus Stoinis was also reprimanded for the same.

Rahul has been slapped with 20 per cent of the match fees just days after he was docked Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate against Mumbai Indians.

Rahul admitted to the 'Level 1 offence' of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction, the IPL said in a release.

However Stoinis' Code of Conduct breach was also not specified, though he was seen arguing with the on-field umpire during an over bowled by Josh Hazlewood.

“Marcus Stoinis from Lucknow Super Giants has been reprimanded for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. Mr Stoinis admitted to the Level 1 offence of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the IPL statement added.

As far as match is concerned, after coming from a high of defeating Mumbai Indians by 18 runs on April 16, LSG went down to RCB with the same margin as Faf Du Plessis' breezy 96 and Josh Hazlewood's brilliant bowling inflicted pain on them.

The 37-year-old du Plessis roared back to form after a string of low scores with a 64-ball knock to help RCB post 181 for six after being sent into bat. Pace spearhead Hazlewood (4/25) then picked two wickets upfront and two at the fag end as RCB restricted LSG to 163 for eight to register their fifth win of the season.

With this RCB are now second in the points table while LSG slumped to fourth.
