IPL 2022 Orange Cap: Sanju Samson enters top 10 with half-century, Shreyas jumps five spots

Rajasthan Royals (RR) Jos Buttler continues to lead the orange cap race despite an ordinary knock of 23 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 2 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Another Royals batter entered the top 10 with a 54-run knock in the same game. The Royals skipper took 49 deliveries to score 54 runs. His innings included seven fours and one six.

Samson entering top 10 meant Deepak Hooda's ouster from the list. While Samson is now placed eighth on the table with 298 runs from 10 games, Hooda has 279 runs from as many appearances.

As Samson rose in the list, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) opener Quinton de Kock and Mumbai Indians' (MI) Suryakumar Yadav slipped one spot each in the top 10 list.

The biggest jump was made by KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer, who now has 324 runs from 10 games after a crucial 34-run knock against Royals in the run chase of 153. Shreyas is now fourth on the list. He jumped five spots to get to the fourth place in top 10, just behind Buttler, KL Rahul and Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma. He has the same number of runs as Abhishek but the latter did it in nine games.

While English wicketkeeper-batter has a substantial lead over others, LSG skipper Rahul remains a close second. Rahul is 137 runs behind the Englishman.

With table-toppers Gujarat Titans taking on a struggling Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 3 at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai, a lot of changes are expected to take place. GT skipper Hardik needs 17 more runs to leave Abhishek and Shreyas. Similarly, PBKS opener Shikhar Dhawan needs 18 or more runs to get to the third spot.

On the other hand, David Miller and Liam Livingstone have a chance to enter the top 10 even if they manage to produce a cameo.
