IPL 2022 Orange Cap: Shikhar Dhawan's record-breaking innings pushes him to third, Ambati Rayudu reaches 10th spot

SportsTak

Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener Shikhar Dhawan carried the bat for his team with a brilliant 88 runs off 59 balls with nine fours and two sixes to his name to lead his team to a brilliant 11-run win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday.

Leading the line from the front, Dhawan's exceptional innings broke many records. He becomes the second cricketer (Indian or foreign) to break into the 6,000+ IPL runs club, alongside Indian teammate Virat Kohli. In addition to this, he also now has over 1,000 IPL runs against CSK, which is also a record in itself. He also crossed the 9,000 run threshold in T20 cricket.

Another player who did well but in vain was CSK's Ambati Rayudu. The 36-year-old veteran hit a brilliant 39-ball 78 to drag Chennai back into the game but his wicket at the hands of Kagiso Rabada effectively ended his innings.

Let's have a look at the top-10 batters who are continuing their foray into the Orange Cap race:

Dhawan's contributions have pushed him into the top half of the Orange cap table to third, above the likes of Mumbai Indians' (MI) Tilak Varma, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis and Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Hardik Pandya. Meanwhile, Rayudu also moved into the top 10 after his contribution to CSK's run chase in the last match.
