IPL 2022 Points Table: RR move back up the table after Chahal, Buttler heroics

SportsTak

After a hard-fought seven-run victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match in Mumbai on Monday (April 18), Rajasthan Royals (RR) shot up the table from fifth to second. They are currently on eight points, but a superior net run rate of +0.380 has pushed them above Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on the points table.

Leading the line for the inaugural champions of the IPL were Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal with the bat and ball respectively. While Buttler notches his second century of the season, Chahal made up for a poor start to the match with a brilliant hat-trick in his final over of the match, and his first five-fer in the IPL.

Orange Cap 2022

Buttler's second century of the season pushed the Englishman's total for the season to 375. Striking at a rate of 168.85, the batter hit nine fours and five sixes in 61 balls to reach a score of 103 before being dismissed by Pat Cummins. Meanwhile, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer also shot up the Orange Cap list to second after his brilliant 51-ball 85 which went in vain against RR. KL Rahul (235), Hardik Pandya (228) and Shivam Dube (226) occupy the next three spots.

Purple Cap 2022

Current Purple Cap holder Chahal conceded 38 runs before his fourth over, but the wily spinner made up for his shortcomings with a lovely hat-trick in his final over to snatch the victory from KKR's grasp. The first wicket of his hat-trick was that of Iyer, which was the most crucial one. He then dismissed Shivam Mavi and Pat Cummins, essentially winning the match for RR and also picking up five more wickets, taking his tally for the season to 17. He is also now five clear of second-place T Natarajan. Kuldeep Yadav, Avesh Khan and Wanindu Hasaranga have 11 wickets each.
