IPL 2022: Rovman Powell discloses chat with DC skipper Rishabh Pant during India-West Indies series

West Indies big-hitter Rovman Powell failed to win the recently concluded T20I series against India but his terrific innings of 68 runs (not out) off just 36 balls in the second T20I match of the three-match series is still remembered by many. In that match, Powell was also seen having some conversations with Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.

Recalling the conversation

It is worth mentioning that at the mega auction for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Powell was roped in by Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise. And now, Powell revealed that Pant told him in their conversations during the series that he was excited to have the West Indies big-hitter in his team.

“It has been very good,” said Powell in a video posted by Delhi Capitals on their Youtube channel.

“We have played some T20 games down in Kolkata where we had a little chat and he said that he is excited for me to be around the Delhi Capitals team. I am excited also. It's just all about about playing together, build a champion unit and go out on the field and do the job for Delhi," Powell further added.

On the other hand, the 28-year-old Jamaican batter talked about DC head coach Ricky Ponting and Powell hopes that he “can learn a thing or two from him.”

“As a child growing up I watched Ricky's documentary where he talks about his cricketing journey and his family. We know the type of leader he is when he was captain for Australia. So I think that just falls down into his coaching role and what he expects of us players. Hopefully I can learn a thing or two from him,” Powell expressed.

DC's first match

Delhi Capitals will start their IPL campaign on March 27 against Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium, in Mumbai.

The IPL 2022 is slated to be held across four venues -- Wankhede Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and MCA International Stadium in Pune. The final match of the tournament is scheduled to be played on May 29.
