The Indian Premier League (IPL) player registration time came to an end on November 30, 2022. A total of 991 players (714 Indian and 277 overseas players) have signed up to be part of the TATA IPL 2023 Player Auction set to take place December 23, 2022, in Kochi. The players' list includes 185 capped, 786 uncapped and 20 players from Associate Nations.

IPL 2023 Participating Player Breakdown as:

·Capped Indian (19 players)

·Capped International (166 players)

·Associate (20 players)

·Uncapped Indians who were a part of previous IPL seasons (91 players)

·Uncapped International who were a part of previous IPL seasons (3 players)

·Uncapped Indians (604 players)

·Uncapped Internationals (88 players)

Note: If every franchise were to have a maximum of 25 players in their squad, 87 players are available to be bought in the auction (of which up to 30 players can be overseas players).

The 16th edition is likely to start in the first week of April 2023, IPL governing council told Sports Tak. All aspects of the upcoming season including inaugural edition of women's IPL will be discussed on December 1 evening in IPL governing council meeting.
In November, all franchises announced their list of retained and released players. A total of 90 players were released as few franchises decided to go into the IPL 2023 auction with a heavy purse in an attempt to rebuild their squad. The mini-auction will take place in Kochi on December 23.

Hugh Edmeades who collapsed during the IPL 2022 auction due to "postural hypotension" will return to his duties as auctioneer once again.
