After failing to register a decent score in his first three outings, Harry Brook changed his fate and became the first centurion of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday (April 14). He clobbered the KKR bowlers all around the park and smoked 12 fours and three sixes in his 55-ball 100.
Through Brook's antics, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) managed to reach the mammoth total of 228. In reply, depsite Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh's counter-attacking knocks KKR lost the match by 23 runs. The England opener described it as "a special night" and said that this knock is definitely up there with his other top performances.
After a 23 run victory over KKR at Eden Gardens, the SRH team celebrated as Brook was seen feasting on some local delicacies. SRH took to twitter to post the video where the 24-year-old was seen enjoying munching a 'rasgulla' with his face covered with cake.
Here's the video…
Talking about the match, Brook, who opened for SRH was supported by Hyderabad skipper Aiden Markram (50) and Abhishek Sharma (32) and stitched two important fifty-run partnerships respectively.
West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell was the most effective bowler for KKR as he took three wickets but had to leave the field due to injury concern at the start of his third over. Meanwhile, it was Lockie Ferguson who conceded most runs for KKR as the New Zealand quickie gave away 37 runs in two overs.
While chasing a colossal 229-run target, KKR lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz early for a duck in the first over of their chase to veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Then, Marco Jansen removed Venkatesh Iyer (10) and Sunil Narine (0) on consecutive deliveries. But, then walked in skipper Nitish Rana who stitched a partnership with Narayan Jagadeesan and made a 41-ball 75 before falling to T Natarajan.
Kolkata's new finisher, Rinku Singh, who is in stellar touch showed his class once again with a 31-ball 58. The fluent innings from the lefty batter comprised of four fours and four sixes but fell short of clinching yet another victory for KKR.
