IPL 2023: Jos Buttler fined 10 per cent of match fee after code of conduct breach

Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees after he was deemed to have breached the league's Code of Conduct during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on Thursday, May 11.

The league released a statement of the same after the fixture, saying, "Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler has been fined 10 Percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on May 11."

"Buttler admitted to the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding," the statement added.

In the same game, the 2022 IPL Orange Cap winner was run out by Andre Russell for a duck while chasing a miserly total of 149 runs for the win. After his dismissal, his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal played a memorable inning of 98 runs off 47 balls, while his skipper Sanju Samson also played a steady innings of 48 runs from 29 balls.

According to the IPL Code of Conduct, under Article 2.2, this action is taken when someone misuses cricket equipment, clothes, and ground equipment during a match. Earlier, in the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)  on April 10, Avesh Khan, LSG bowler, threw his helmet on the ground after taking the winning run.  

The same fine was levied against KKR opener Jason Roy, who played a blistering inning of 50 runs off 29 balls in the match against RCB on 26 April. Roy hit 4 sixes in a single over bowled by Shahbaz Ahmed. After the match, action was taken against Jason Roy under Article 2.2 of the Level 1 offence of the IPL Code of Conduct.
