IPL 2023 Purple Cap: Mark Wood on top as LSG and GT bowlers dominate the top 5 list

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is alive and kicking. A total of 16 matches have been played in IPL 2023 and the franchises involved have provided immense entertainment to their loyal supporters. After 12 days of action in the cash-rich tournament, all teams have played at least three matches each while Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals have played four games each. Furthermore, none of the teams are unbeaten in the ongoing season of the IPL.

Rohit Sharma's Mumbai finally registered their first win of the season after defeating David Warner's Delhi by six wickets in a pulsating contest on April 11 (Tuesday). Meanwhile, DC are in complete disarray as the franchise has now lost four consecutive matches. Let's take a closer look at the points table.

When it comes to the race for Purple Cap, Lucknow Super Giants' express pacer Mark Wood leads the race. Having said that, two world-class spinners are on Wood's tail.

1. Mark Wood: Lucknow Super Giants' overseas pacer has started the tournament in sublime form. Wood has nice wickets in three matches. The right-arm pacer has accounted for one five-wicket haul as well is currently sitting pretty in the highest wicket-takers list

2. Rashid Khan: Gujarat Titans' leg-spinner has accounted for eight wickets in three matches and is second on the highest wicket-takers list.

3. Yuzvendra Chahal: Rajasthan Royals' leg-spinner has also so far bagged eight wickets in three matches. Chahal has accounted for one four-wicket haul in the competition this year.

4. Ravi Bishnoi: Lucknow Super Giants' young leg-spinner has bagged six wickets in three matches so far. He has bowled 72 balls in total and conceded just 75 runs.

5. Alzarri Joseph: Gujarat Titans' overseas pacer stormed into the top 5. The right-arm speedster has six wickets in three matches.
