IPL 2023 Purple Cap: Tushar Deshpande tops bowlers charts with three wickets for CSK vs PBKS... But with a catch

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is alive and kicking. A total of 42 matches have been played in IPL 2023 and the franchises involved have provided immense entertainment to their loyal supporters. After 30 days of action in the cash-rich tournament, all teams are gearing up for the business end of the competition.

Four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS) after which, five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Rajasthan Royals (R) in what turned out to be a thrilling Sunday. After an exhilarating day of action, we take a look at the list of leading wicket-takers in IPL 2023 so far:

1. Tushar Deshpande: CSK's right-arm pacer has 17 wickets in nine matches. The young pacer has an average of 21.70 with the ball but has conceded a massive 369, the most on this list

2. Arshdeep Singh: The left-arm medium pacer has bagged 15 wickets in seven matches in the competition so far. Arshdeep averages 19.66 with the ball.

3. Mohammed Siraj: The right-arm fast bowler has bagged 14 wickets in eight matches in the tournament this season. Siraj averages 16.64 with the ball.

4. Rashid Khan: The Gujarat Titans leg-spinner has accounted for 14 wickets in seven matches and is fourth on the highest wicket-takers list.

5. Ravichandran Ashwin: He moved into the top five after Sunday and has 13 wickets this season for RR, with an average of 20.00.

6. Piyush Chawla: Mumbai Indians' leg-spinner has bagged 13 wickets in eight matches with an average of 17.38 with the ball.

7. Ravindra Jadeja: Chennai Super Kings' left-arm spinner has accounted for 13 wickets in seven matches. He averages 18.46 with the ball.

8. Mohammed Shami: Moving to eighth after his performance against KKR on Sunday. The GT bowler has 13 wickets and an average of 18.15.
