The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is alive and kicking. A total of 12 matches have been played in IPL 2023 and the franchises involved have provided immense entertainment to their loyal supporters. After nine days of action in the cash-rich tournament, all teams have played at least two matches while a few franchises have played three games. Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are the only two teams that are unbeaten in the completion so far.
While it's still early days in this edition of the cash-rich league, each franchise would have analysed its strengths and weaknesses depending on the performances. When it comes to the race for Purple Cap, last year's winner Yuzvendra Chahal is once again leading the race while Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) Mark Wood is breathing down the Indian spinner's neck.
Let's take a look at the top 5 leading wicket-takers in IPL 2023 so far.
1. Yuzvendra Chahal: Rajasthan Royals' leg-spinner leads the chart so far with eight wickets in three matches. Chahal has accounted for one four-wicket haul in the competition this year.
2. Mark Wood: Lucknow Super Giants' overseas pacer has started the tournament in sublime form. Wood also has eight wickets but he has played a game less than Chahal. The right-arm pacer has accounted for one five-wicket haul as well.
