The defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) made a stunning comeback to beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) after suffering a nightmarish defeat against two-time title holder Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) couple of days back.
Yet against Rahul Tewatia turned the match on his head and smashed a boundary in the penultimate ball of the last over when GT needed 4 off just 2 and pulled off a thrilling win over KKR while chasing a target of 154.
However at the press conference Tewatia was again reminded of the match against KKR which Hardik Pandya's brigade lost after Rinku Singh's impossible last-over heroics, which saw Yash Dayal getting banged for five consecutive sixes in the last over when Nitish Rana-led side needed 29 off the last over.
Tewatia was encountered with a question about how GT dealt with the jolt and Yash Dayal who had a nightmarish last over spell.
Tewatia said that nothing has changed and Dayal remains an important bowler for GT just like he was in IPL 2022. After Rinku Singh took him to cleaners with five straight sixes in the final over Dayal was obviously disappointed. But, the dressing room talk was about looking ahead and leaving the past behind.
"He was one of our main bowlers. We became champion last season and he played a massive role in it. He bowled well with the new ball as well in the death last year," said Tewatia in a press conference after beating PBKS by six wickets on Thursday.
Tewatia, however, also revealed that nobody from the team gave Dayal any sympathy.
"One match cannot change the fact of what he has done for us. I think nobody in the team has given him any sympathy," Tewatia said.
Tewatia also said that he advised the star pacer to continued working hard as he already hit the rock bottom and he can only rise from here.
"I told him, 'One match has gone bad. If you want to go down then only you can hit the rock bottom otherwise at GT no one will ever make you feel bad about it. Keep practising and execute what didn't happen that day and wait for your chance. This is the worst, you can't go any lower than this," Tewatia concluded.
