Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma's struggles with the bat continues in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The five-time champions MI are reeling at eighth place in the IPL 2023's points table and so is their skipper's form. The performances of both team and the skipper have been disappointing, where Rohit's quest to score runs and Paltans' search for victories continue.
It won't be an exaggeration to say that MI's chances of winning IPL 2023's title is in jeopardy going by their dismal show in the sixteen season of the cash-rich league. They have managed to earn just three wins in a total of seven matches that they have played so far.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals' assistant coach Shane Watson pointed out Rohit's struggles with the willow and said it could be due to mental fatigue. He also said that the Hitman hasn't been consistent at all for the last 4-5 IPL seasons.
Rohit hasn't had the best of runs in the IPL over the past few seasons, with his average being below 30 since 2017. The IPL 2023 campaign doesn't paint a good picture for the MI skipper at the halfway mark as he has scored 181 runs in seven matches at an average of 25.86.
"It is a huge challenge to manage your mental energy. International cricketers around the world do play a lot of cricket, but Indian cricketers play it non-stop all year round. With Rohit Sharma now being captain of India now as well, it's even more on his plate. If he is a bit mentally fatigued, you can see why. When it comes to Rohit Sharma, we have seen him at his best, but in the last four or five years of the IPL, he hasn't been very consistent at all. It is hard to get your head around it because he is such a gun batter when he is going, taking on all the best bowlers in the world in all different conditions," Watson told The Grade Cricketer on YouTube.
MI lost their last match against the defending champions Gujarat Titans by 55-runs and will next face Rajasthan Royals on April 30.
