Suryakumar Yadav breaks silence on his form slump, says ‘I was only thinking what…’

Mumbai Indians' (MI) batting juggernaut Suryakumar Yadav has finally revealed how he overcame his rare form slump across all formats which left him in a spot of bother. But the fighter Suryakumar didn't let his form dip affect his batting approach and once again the explosive batter came back at his usual self of banging bowlers for fun. Suryakumar recently cracked his maiden IPL century for Mumbai Indians and proved the world why is the ‘Numero Uno' of slam bang cricket.

Surya's struggle and rise

The 32-year-old was struggling to score runs before IPL 2023 kicked off. His form dip also troubled him in the initial phase of the IPL 2023 but the explosive batter slowly and gradually started building his innings and eventually found his mojo back. Suryakumar, who recorded a hat-trick of golden ducks in the three-match T20I series against Australia right before the glitzy league got underway, couldn't score big in the first three games for MI. But his patience paid off and he cracked a splendid 45 off 25 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to get off the mark from his struggle with the form. He didn't stop there and went on to whack his first fifty in IPL 2023, against PBKS. Ever since, he has clobbered three half centuries and a blistering ton so far in the ongoing IPL season. While opening up on his form slump Suryakumar said that he knew he was just one game away as he was grinding it hard in the nets all this while.

Suryakumar opens up on overcoming form slump

In the pre-match press conference ahead of MI's clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Suryakumar was asked about how he overcame his rare form dip to which he replied,"I didn't change anything, I was only thinking what I have done well in the last two years which has helped and worked for him. I sticked to it and continued to do the same thing, be it coming to the nets or spending time outside with the family or teammates. I knew I was batting well in the nets and everything was going well in the nets. I knew today or tomorrow that knock would come soon."

MI will lock horns with SRH in their do-or-die clash as they need to win the game anyhow in order to make it to the IPL 2023's playoffs. On being asked about the importance of the cruch game against SRH on May 21, Suryakumar said,"It's just another game for us. Yes, from outside it looks that it is a big game and we have to wait for others' results. But we know what we have been doing here at Wankhede in last 4-5 games. We know our strength and strong areas so we will back that and we will focus on that only."
