Suresh Raina has looked a pale shadow of himself during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The southpaw, who missed the game against the Delhi Capitals on Monday has managed just 37 runs in the UAE leg with 17 being his highest score. The Indian leg also didn't go in favour of Raina as he could score 123 runs from six outings at an average of just 9.25.
Woeful IPL for Raina
The middle-order batter, who was once a run-machine for CSK has failed to emulate his past performances. Raina, who bid adieu to international cricket on August 15 2020, missed 2020 season due personal reasons and not playing competitive cricket other than the IPL seems to be hurting the left-handed batter.
The former champions in their game against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Monday made three changes in their playing XI and decided to rest Chinna Thala. Skipper MS Dhoni, who has failed with the bat himself had cleared at the toss that Raina was rested because of a niggle. With CSK already in the play-off after being knocked out out in the league stages of the last season, Dhoni will look to rest some of his key players before the qualifiers, which begin on October 10.
Meanwhile, former England captain Michael Vaughan has come to Raina’s rescue asserting that the former Indian cricketer will soon be back in the mix and it is still not the end of the road for CSK’s star batter.
