It was raining money on players on Day 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction. Ishan Kishan was the most bid upon player in the auction as he became the second most expensive player in the history of IPL auctions. Here is a list of players who went for more that Rs 10 crore in the auction.

Ishan Kishan

As five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians (MI) aimed at retaining their core players, the franchise went all out after the wicketkeeper-batter. Kishan was released by MI as they chose to retain Suryakumar Yadav over him. After a hard-fought bidding war with multiple franchises, the southpaw was roped in for Rs 15.25 crore becoming the most expensive player in IPL 2022 mega auction.

Deepak Chahar
The bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar became a hot property in IPL auctions as he showed his might with the bat in recent times. Similar to MI, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) went after their core players as well and fought with Delhi Capitals (DC) to acquire his services for a whopping Rs 14 crore. Chahar also became the most expensive Indian bowler in IPL auction history.

Shreyas Iyer
As Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) went shopping for a new captain, Shreyas Iyer invited a string of bids in the opening hour of the auction. After releasing Eoin Morgan, KKR went hard after former DC captain and bought him for Rs 12.25 crore. He became the first player of the day to cross the Rs 10 crore mark.

Harshal Patel
The rapidfire bids for Harshal Patel made Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) almost regret whey they didn’t retain the highest wicket-taker of the IPL 2021 season. Harshal’s stocks reached sky high as he went from Rs 20 lakh in 2021 season to Rs 10.75 crore in IPL 2022 auction.

Wanindu Hasaranga
The spin all-rounder from Sri Lanka was another player RCB player who was retained ahead of the auction but got big bucks. The no.1 T20I bowler Hasaranga had Punjab Kings and RCB fighting over him. Hasaranga became the most expensive Sri Lankan player in IPL auction history.

Nicholas Pooran
Nicholas Pooran may have not been in best of forms of late or performed well in the last season but franchises went to great extent to include him in their squad. Pooran was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Rs 10.75 crore.

Shardul Thakur
After splurging big bucks on Deepak Chahar, CSK could not go all out for their fast-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur. DC got the star Indian all-rounder for Rs 10.75 crore after a tussle with Punjab Kings. Thakur played a vital role in CSK’s successful run in the last season.

Prasidh Krishna
After taking nine wickets in the ODI series against West Indies, Prasidh Krishna became another Indian fast bowler to touch the Rs 10 crore mark. Krishna played a crucial role in KKR’s journey to the final last season. He has 30 wickets from 34 games at an average of 38.4. However, his economy rate has been over nine runs per over.

Lockie Ferguson

After a fruitful second phase of IPL 2021, Lockie Ferguson was released by KKR. Ferguson had as many as four franchises interested in him but Gujarat Titans outlasted them all by roping him in for Rs 10 crore. Surprisingly, KKR did not bid for the Kiwi speedster.

Avesh Khan
Avesh Khan became the most expensive uncapped player in the history of IPL. Starting at the base price of Rs 20 lakh, Avesh had five franchises bidding for him. Towards the end, it was a fight between SRH and LSG. The KL Rahul-led side outbid their opponents to acquire services of second-highest wicket-taker of last year’s season.
