Jos Buttler became the fourth overseas batter to score two or more centuries in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. On the 15th anniversary of first ever IPL game, Buttler scored his third century in the cash-rich league.
He reached the three figures against Kolkata Knight Riders at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, on the first ball of the 17th over with a six off Pat Cummins. In the same over, he got caught at fine leg in an attempt to hit the short ball for a six. He scored 103 runs from 61 deliveries. His knock was studded with nine fours and five sixes.
Another record
He also went past Shane Watson, Ajinkya Rahane and current skipper Sanju Samson with his third century for Royals. Only Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli have hit more centuries (5) for a single IPL franchise (Royal Challengers Bangalore).
Leading the race
The English wicketkeeper-batter is also leading the orange cap race by a big margin with 375 runs from six games at an average of 75. He has scored two half-centuries in the tournament as well.
Solid start
Earlier got Royals off to a brilliant start with 97-run opening partnership. His opening partner, Devdutt Padikkal scored 28 runs from 18 deliveries. He reached his half-century with a boundary too off Cummins in the seventh over. He took 29 deliveries to go past 50 runs.
1st ton of season
Buttler's first century of the season came against Mumbai Indians. The 31-year-old scored 100 runs from 68 deliveries to help Royals post 193/8 and win the game by 23 runs.
