Mumbai Indians (MI) posted their highest-ever score in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav’s respective whirlwind half-centuries helped MI post a total of 235/9 in 20 overs. Their previous highest IPL score came in IPL 2017 while chasing 231 against Punjab franchise. This is also the highest-ever total SRH have conceded since they started playing IPL. The previous-highest (227/4) they conceded was against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2016.
SKY’s personal best
Yadav scored 82 runs from 40 deliveries including 13 fours and three sixes before getting out in the final over. This is Yadav’s personal best IPL score surpassing his previous best of 79 not out against Rajasthan Royals (RR) last year. In the penultimate over, the MI batter looked like he will get to his maiden IPL century but a serious hit from SRH’s express pacer Umran Malik had an impact on his big hitting.
Kishan’s MI record
The wicketkeeper-batter got MI off to a brilliant start getting to his half-century from just 16 deliveries. This is the fastest half-century by a MI batter and joint third-fastest overall. Kishan went on to score 84 runs from just 32 balls including 11 fours and four sixes.
Rest MI batters fail
While Kishan and Yadav went all guns blazing, other MI batters managed to put 58 runs on the board on a day when the team needed to score as many runs as possible to even think of winning the match by 171 runs for playoffs berth. Skipper Rohit Sharma looked good in the powerplay overs but got out for 18 after hitting three boundaries. Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard were the only two other batters who managed single-digit scores. James Neesham bagged a golden duck whereas lower-order batters Krunal Pandya, Nathan Coulter-Nile disappointed Yadav at the other end.
