Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul on Tuesday broke his countryman and former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli’s record for the fastest India batter to reach 6,000 runs in T20 cricket. Rahul took 179 innings to touch the milestone which is five less than the legendary Kohli.
This achievement was completed by the 29-year-old during LSG's Indian Premier League (IPL) match against RCB on Tuesday. He’s now the third quickest to do so in the history of T20 cricket. Currently holding the record is West Indies legend Chris Gayle, having taken just 162 innings. The former RCB and Punjab Kings (PBKS) player is followed by Pakistan captain Babar Azam at the second spot, who took 165 innings.
Shikhar Dhawan completes the top-three among the Indians, while Rahul and Kohli occupy the first two spots. The PBKS southpaw took 213 innings to reach the landmark.
KL Rahul is currently the captain of new IPL entrants LSG, who have gotten off on a superb note. While his team have been really good, Rahul has also been in good form with the bat. He’s just one of the two batters in IPL 2022 to have scored a century so far. He touched three figures against the Mumbai Indians (MI) last week, helping his team to an 18-run victory.
However, on Tuesday, he got the start but failed to convert after nicking one behind to be caught by the wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik, having scored just 30 runs as LSG suffered their third defeat of the season.
Chasing a total of 182 to win, LSG finished their innings with 163 runs on the board. The team started well having dismissed Kohli and Glenn Maxwell in the Powerplay but RCB captain Faf du Plessis revived the innings and scored a superb 96 to help them to what turned out to be a winning total.
LSG have won four of their seven matches and have slipped to the fourth spot in the standings with eight points to their name. Meanwhile, RCB have climbed up to the second spot with 10 points.
