Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) middle-order batter Rinku Singh has been in stupendous form in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Despite KKR's inconsistent run, Rinku has fired on most occasions and entered history books when he hit five sixes off Gujarat Titans (GT) Yash Dayal in the final over to pull off one of the best wins in IPL history.
After the knock, Rinku was lauded by KKR team owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. After KKR's convincing 21-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Rinku revealed his conversation with Shah Rukh over phone after his splendid knock at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Asked by broadcasters about the conversation with Shah Rukh, the 25-year-old said, “Sir (Shah Rukh Khan) called me after that. He was talking about my marriage. SRK said people call me for their marriage, I don't go. Mein teri shaadi mein aunga naachne (I will come to your wedding to dance)."
Nitish Rana-led KKR turned their season around with a win after four consecutive losses. The southpaw has scored 251 runs from eight games at an average of 62.75 including two half-centuries. He has scored at an impressive strike rate of 158.86.
Against RCB, he walked in to bat at no.6 after Mohammed Siraj got rid of Andre Russell with a fiery yorker. He smashed two fours and one six in his 10-ball 18. On the other end, David Wiese smashed two sixes in just two balls to take KKR's score to 200/5. In the run chase, RCB lost too many wickets and failed to put up a fight in the second half despite stand-in skipper Virat Kohli’s half-century.
Earlier, Kohli had lauded Rinku for his last over onslaught against GT.
"What the youngsters are doing today is amazing to see. Look at this IPL, I couldn't even think of doing stuff what these young guys are doing. Just the other night, Rinku Singh hits 5 Sixes in last 5 balls which is amazing & never happened something like that. Coming in an hitting five sixes in a row to win a match, I mean what level is this? So that transition is happening is great. It is great to see such youngsters coming up," Kohli had told former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa on Jio Cinema.
