19-year-old Indian all-rounder Tilak Varma was roped in by five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise for Rs 1.70 crore at the mega auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. And now he has expressed his desire to play against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise in the upcoming edition of IPL 2022.
Varma's desire
“I have watched Sachin [Tendulkar] sir and Rohit [Sharma] bhai a lot while I was growing up and it has been a dream of mine since childhood to play for MI one day. I feel like it is going to be a great experience. I’m eager to get started as soon as possible. MI also has this unique spirit of bouncing back from tough situations,” Varma was quoted by Mumbai Indians’ official website.
“I think that would be CSK. I have admired MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja for a long time. So doing well and winning a match for MI against them will give me great confidence,” he added.
Amicable atmosphere
While talking about his side Mumbai Indians, Varma said that “there was something different about this team.’
“Whenever it felt like they would lose a game, the team always found a way to win. I then felt that there was something different about this team and it always motivated me. It always felt like a family and the fans just make it all the better.”
Ahead of the mega auction for IPL 2022, MI had decided to retain four cricketers and those players are- skipper Rohit Sharma (Rs 16 crore), Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah (Rs 12 crore), Indian middle order batsman Suryakumar Yadav (Rs 8 crore), West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard (Rs 6 crore).
With the addition of two new teams- Ahmedabad and Lucknow, the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League will have 10 teams vying for the prestigious trophy.
