Prithvi Shaw's horror show with the bat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has brought him under strict scanner as once again Delhi Capitals' (DC) star batter failed to perform in the tie against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Thursday (April 20). Despite DC won the match by four wickets, but Shaw wasted one more opportunity to prove his worth as he was bowled by Varun Chakravarthy for a lowly 13 off 11 balls. Shaw has scored runs like a telephone number in his six matches so far i.e 13, 12, 7, 0, 15 and 0 which has exposed his weakness against raw pace and the moving ball.
Meanwhile, former English skipper Michael Vaughan was critical about Shaw's back-to-back flop show and said that the star batter can't just play on reputation now. Vaughan also issued Shaw a warning while saying it's high time he finds a way to get back to scoring ways.
"Early in the tournament, Mark Wood bowled him. His feet went nowhere. He was waiting for the short one but it was pitched up and he was nowhere near the line of the ball. I think Prithvi needs runs. He can't just keep going on reputation, can't just keep harping about what you've done in the past, you have to produce runs here and there. He has had a poor start. I don't he has gone beyond the powerplay," Vaughan said on Cricbuzz.
Shaw entered IPL 2023 with a gunning form which he carried out in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament and Ranji Trophy which also scripted his comeback in the Team India's fold. Right before the start of the IPL 2023, DC's coach Ricky Ponting predicted that the sixteenth season of the cash-rich league will be Shaw's best-ever season. But Shaw failed to live upto the expectations so far and continues to disappoint everyone with his lacklustre show with the willow.
However, Shaw will come to bat with a heavy baggage of expectations on his back when DC will lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 24.
