Rohit Sharma's Mumbai Indians (MI) are just a favour away from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to secure the coveted IPL 2023 playoff berth. Riding on Rohit Sharma's brilliant fifty and Cameron Green's maiden IPL ton Paltans bulldozed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets on Sunday (May 21) and are now dependent on the favourable outcome in the RCB versus GT clash in order to make it the the top-four.
Back in IPL 2022, Rohit's MI helped RCB to qualify for the IPL playoffs after beating Delhi Capitals in their last league game. And a year later Rohit wants Faf Du Plessis' RCB to return favour with playoff berth at stake. RCB's win against GT will dash Mumbai's playoff dreams as they need just two points to qualify for the top-four spot as they already have a healthier net run rate than MI.
Rohit wants RCB to return favour
Right after the conclusion of MI versus SRH's clash, Rohit said that last year MI did a big favour for RCB and it's Faf-led side's chance to return the favour.
"Last year, we did a big favour for RCB, I hope we get the desired result. We did a lot of things right," Rohit said.
However, Rohit also said that if they fail to make it to the playoff berth then MI will have themselves to blame.
"We came the mindset of that, we wanted to win and not worry about what we can't control. I haven't spoken to anyone. We've got ourselves to blame if we don't qualify. We didn't start well and then won three on the trot," the MI captain said.
"The crucial moments in the game that we lost - there were a lot of moments. The game against Punjab, we could have played well. And the last game against LSG, we had the game in our hands. We can't look too much into it. Sometimes it just doesn't come along," Rohit concluded.
Talking about the match, SRH rode on splendid knocks from Mayank Agarwal and Vivrant Sharma to post a huge total of 200/5. Akash Madhwal was pick of the bowlers for MI as he bowled an impressive spell of 4/37. In reply, Green cracked a magnificent 100 off 47 which was decorated with eight six and as many fours to hog the limelight. Green's top-notch knock was well coupled with Rohit's blistering fifty as MI made the light work of SRH's big total.
