Australian pacer Jhye Richardson has been ruled out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer underwent surgery for hamstring issues last week. The fast bowler posted a photo of him from hospital bed on March 11.
The caption of the post read: “Injuries are a big part of cricket, thats a fact. Frustrating? Absolutely. But I’m now in a scenario where I can get back to doing what I love and work bloody hard to become an even better player than before. One step back, two steps forward. Let’s do this.”
Richardson was picked for Rs 1.5 crore by MI in IPL auction. The 26-year-old has also been ruled out of three-ODI series against India starting March 17. He is likely to miss the Ashes 2023 as well in England.
Richardson made his last international appearance against Sri Lanka in an ODI where he picked up two wickets. He was in fine form in Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23. For champions Perth Scorchers, he took 15 wickets from just seven games at an average of 12.46 and an impressive economy rate of 6.75 runs per over.
He made his IPL debut for Punjab Kings (PBKS). He was roped in for a whopping sum of Rs 14 crore by the Punjab-based franchise. He played just three matches and picked up three wickets. He was expensive and conceded runs at 10.63 runs per over.
Earlier, India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled of IPL 2023 as well due to back injury. However, England pacer Jofra Archer will make his MI debut in the upcoming season.
