The mighty Mumbai Indians (MI) and star-studded Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clashed with each other in the battle of heavyweights in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on super Sunday (April 2).

Faf Du Plessis-led side won the toss and opted to bowl first against Rohit Sharma's Paltans. Nehal Wadhera, who hails from Ludhiana, made his IPL debut for MI. Touted as new era's Yuvraj Singh, Wadhera gave a glimpse of his batting proficiency riding on a quickfire 13-ball 21 which was loaded with a boundary and two maximums. But what caught everyone's eyeballs was his mammoth six which cleared Chinnaswamy stadium to leave everyone searching for the ball in the night sky. He smashed Karn Sharma for back-to-back sixes. The second six, which was 101 metre long, went out of the park.

However, right after belting the second six he fell prey to Sharma's bowl and took the longest walk towards pavilion after scoring 21.

At the 2023 IPL auction, Wadhera's talent was recognized, and he celebrated by scoring a century (123) in his Ranji debut against Gujarat. He continued to shine in the 2022-23 season by scoring a double-century (214) against Madhya Pradesh. Wadhera is a promising young cricketer with a bright future ahead of him.

Talking about the match, RCB handed MI early jolts as Rohit's brigade was seen teetering at 20/3. Mohammed Siraj, Reece Topley and Akash Deep cleaned the top three batters of Paltans. Ishan Kishan left the game after only scoring 10 runs, Rohit after 1, Cameron Green after 5, and Suryakumar Yadav after scoring only 15. When the chips were down, the young guns stepped up as Tilak Verma smashed a crucial fifty and got support from debutant Nehal Wadhera for a while. Later riding on Verma's blistering 84 off 46 MI posted a challenging total of 171/7. However, the target wasn't enough for the RCB as the dazzling duo of Virat Kohli (82 off 49) and Faf Du Plessis (73 off 43) unleashed the beast in them and chased down the target with 22 balls and eight wickets to spare.
