Skipper Rohit Sharma, who has won five Indian Premier League title for Mumbai Indians (MI), has leapfrogged former Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) captain Gautam Gambhir to climb to the third spot on the list of captains with most caps in the cash-rich league. He achieved this feat while playing MI's IPL opener against Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) as it was also his 130th match as team's captain. Meanwhile, Gambhir, who now sits at the 4th spot with 129 IPL caps as KKR captain.
Rohit was handed the MI's captaincy back in 2013 and has been the cornerstone behind team's unprecedented success in the IPL ever since.
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings' skipper MS Dhoni tops the elite list with 204 matches as captain. Before the ongoing edition of IPL, Dhoni was their full time skipper, however, he passed the captaincy baton to the star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to spearhead the team. Dhoni-led CSK have four IPL titles in their kitty after MI's five.
Former Royal Challengers Bangalore's skipper Virat Kohli holds the second spot with 64 victories and 69 defeats in a total 140 matches.
Meanwhile in the match, Ishan Kishan hit a brisk unbeaten 81 as Mumbai Indians scored 177 for 5 against Delhi Capitals in their Indian Premier League match here on Sunday.
Sent in to bat, Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma (41) shared 67 runs for the opening wicket to lay the foundation for the total.
For DC, Kuldeep Yadav picked up three wickets for 18 runs.
