Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw scored second consecutive half-century in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. With a 51-run knock off 29 deliveries, Shaw became the second batter for the Delhi franchise after Virender Sehwag to score 1,000 runs in the powerplay overs.
Against KKR, he scored 36 runs from 20 deliveries in the powerplay overs while Warner played second fiddle to him. His aggressive knock helped DC post 68/0 in the first six overs. It is also the second-highest powerplay score of the season. He hit four fours and one six during the fielding restrictions. Shaw also has the highest strike rate in powerplay overs for DC.
He shared a 93-run partnership with Warner. The 22-year-old hit seven fours and two sixes in his knock. He got bowled by Varun Chakravarthy in the ninth over. After an unimpressive first game for Capitals, Warner hit his first half-century of the season. The Aussie opener scored 61 runs from 45 deliveries including six fours and two sixes. He had support from skipper Rishabh Pant as well. Pant contributed with a 14-ball 27 cameo.
In the death overs, the duo of Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur helped DC finish on a high. In the penultimate over, 23 runs were scored including three sixes. In the last over, 16 runs were scored off Pat Cummins’ over. The two shared an unbeaten 49-run partnership from just 20 deliveries.
Sehwag’s IPL career for Delhi
Sehwag played IPL from the inaugural edition in 2008 to 2015. He scored 2,350 runs from 93 games at an average of 28.43 including 15 half-centuries and two centuries. The former Indian opener played for then-Delhi Daredevils in the first five seasons. He captained the franchise in the first two seasons and then took over the leadership position again in the 2012 edition.
