Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) top-order batter Rahul Tripathi had a brainfade moment in the first over run chase against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Tripathi tried guiding the ball square of the wicket but first slip fielder Jason Holder plucked one out of thin air at wide slip.
Tripathi looked confused after the dismissal and had a conversation with the umpire before opting for DRS. The replay showed that there was a clear outside edge as Tripathi opened the face of the bat.
Royals’ left-arm pacer Trent Boult finished the over with two wickets. He did not concede a single run in the first over of the innings. He started off with the wicket of Abhishek Sharma off the third ball. Sharma was bamboozled by the outswinging yorker from the Kiwi pacer.
After Boult's double wicket-maiden, SRH could not get off to a good start. They scored just 30 runs in the powerplay overs. SRH's Rs 13.25 crore recruit Harry Brook struggled and lost his wicket to Yuzvendra Chahal. No batter could make a mark and SRH lost half their side for 48.
As Chahal took four wickets, at one point SRH feared getting all out. But Umran Malik's cameo of eight-ball 19 and Abdul Samad's late surge helped SRH post 131/8 in 20 overs. They lost the game by a massive margin of 72 runs.
“100 per cent we can say that, let's forget and move on, the way we pulled back in the last 6 overs and Umran's cameo at the end. We did not bowl pretty well, first match of the season and a lot to improve. South Africans are coming back and we definitely will be a much better batting side, we have to move forward from this game. It was a pretty good track, we can prepare what we want but we are not worried about that,” stand-in skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar said in the post-match presentation.
SRH will now take on KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 7 at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. Skipper Aiden Markram will lead SRH. Also, Markram’s teammates Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen will join the SRH squad as well
