South African star David Miller was Gujarat Titans' (GT) knight in shining armour after his unbeaten match-winning knock of 68 runs off just 38 balls helped his side defeat his former team Rajasthan Royals (RR) and reach the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 final.
Miller, who played only 28 games in the last five editions of the IPL, wrote, "Sorry Royals family," on Twitter after his knock condemned RR to a loss and punished his old team.
In response to the tweet, the Royals came up with a meme GIF that said, "Dushman na kare dost ne voh kaam kiya hai (even an enemy won't do what a friend has done)." After Miller's tweet, the Royals' old tweet from the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) resurfaced. Royals had written, "When your ex comes back to haunt you" when Yuzvendra Chahal performed well against his former team.
Playing at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the toss is always a crucial factor as the wicket settles down in the second innings and the team batting first has to get 20 runs over par to feel safe. Even though RR recovered well after a slight blip in the middle overs to get to a score of 189 in the first innings owing to Jos Buttler's 89 off 56 following skipper Sanju Samson's blitz (47 off 26), the Titans were never out of it.
These were the words from Miller after he smashed four sixes and a four in the last eight balls that he faced as he remained unbeaten on 68 and striking at a rate of 178.9 while forcing his former team to go through the second qualifier to have an opportunity to meet them again in the final.
