Before the Indian Premier Legaue (IPL) 2021 eliminator match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have released two Sri Lankan players, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera.
RCB announced on their official Twitter account that both Lankan players will be released for T20 World Cup qualifiers, praising and thanking them for their professionalism and hard work during the IPL 2021. They will be joining the Sri Lankan squad ahead of T20 World Cup 2021.
Sri Lanka is in Group A of the T20 World Cup qualifiers, alongside Ireland, Netherlands, and Namibia. They will open their campaign on October 18 against Namibia, followed by Ireland and Netherlands.
If they finish first or second in their group they will be able to advance to the next stage (SUPER 12).
Hasaranga has only appeared in a couple games for RCB this season, while Chameera is yet to make his IPL debut.
The leg spinner remained wicketless in the second phase of IPL 2021 and wasn't included in the side. On the other hand, skipper Virat Kohli has trusted overseas pacers like Kyle Jamieson and George Garton over Chameera.
As a result, their absence may not trouble RCB in tonight's match versus KKR. However, if they advance in the tournament and one or two of their foreign players get injured, the Sri Lankan duo will be missed.
