Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have roped in Guyana-born left-arm spinner Ashmead Nedd as their net bowler for the remaining season of ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The move has been made after recommendation of RCB's West Indian recruit Sherfane Rutheford.
“Going there as a spinner could really help me with my game. I want to ask simple stuff about their routine as a professional and how I can better my game as a youngster moving forward,” Ashmead Nedd told News Room Sport after getting called up for RCB camp.
The left-arm spinner was part of West Indies' Under-19 World Cup squad in 2018 edition. He was a part of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise Guyana Amazon Warriors. In his debut CPL season, he took just three wickets from seven games but maintained an impressive economy rate of 5.64. In List A (50-over) format, he has picked up 17 wickets from 12 games with best bowling figures of 4/29. In this format. his economy rate is even better at 3.50 runs per over.
The 21-year-old is eager to join the squad and share the dressing room with the likes of Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, skipper Faf du Plessis and Josh Hazlewood. So far, he had watched the veterans of the game on television only.
So far, Rutherford has not fired for RCB. The southpaw scored just 33 runs from two innings. The 23-year-old is unlikely to get another chance in RCB middle-order with Aussie hard-hitter Maxwell joining the team from last game.
RCB are currently in the third place on the IPL points table with three wins from four games. They will go into the clash against defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) without the services of their star pacer Harshal Patel, who had left the bio-bubble after his sister’s death.
