Mumbai Indians franchise led by Rohit Sharma will start their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign against Rishabhn Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) on March 27. The Mumbai-based team have till now won the prestigious IPL trophy five times and in the 15th edition of IPL, MI will be hoping to win another title.

Zaheer's take

Zaheer Khan, the director of cricket operations at the franchise, recently talked about Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma and his leadership qualities.

According to Zaheer, the MI skipper “is a player’s captain.”

“Rohit is a player’s captain. He’s been phenomenal for Mumbai Indians over the years as a player and a leader. The fact that he dedicates personal time to each individual and is very approachable, makes him a role model and a standout leader,” Zaheer was quoted while talking to Sportstar.

“We have always been a team which promotes and gives freedom to youngsters. With Rohit’s experience and attitude, I believe we will have a lot of individuals who would be groomed as leaders in their own respective ways…” the former Indian pacer further added.

Four venues

The IPL 2022 is slated to be held across four venues -- Wankhede Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and MCA International Stadium in Pune. The final match of the tournament is scheduled to be played on May 29.

While talking about the venues and MI’s home advantage, Zaheer said that “all teams start with a clean slate."

“Yes, Mumbai has been our home but it’s not that we’re playing all our matches at Wankhede. If you see, all teams are playing relatively the same amount of matches at all venues. So, I don’t think there would be any advantage or disadvantage for any team.

“I believe all teams start with a clean slate…” the 43-year-old former cricketer explained.

With the addition of two new teams- Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants- this year’s IPL will have 10 teams vying for the prestigious trophy.
