Things have not gone well for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL). Chris Morris' ghastly performance this season IPL has not made their director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara a happy man. Sangakkara said that the Morris has bowled poorly in the second leg and the premium all-rounder knows that he has led the team down. The South African all-rounder has played three matches in the second leg of the IPL and is yet to pick a wicket. Nothing has gone right for Morris as he has been unimpressive with bat and ball since the resumption of the league.
In a virtual press conference, Sangakkara said, “Chris Morris did brilliantly for us in the first half, and he has not done the job as we would have liked him too in the second half. He knows that and we know that. 50 runs from four overs, his last over were the last throw of the dice to try and get a wicket. We were well out of the game at that point.”
“He has done well for us in certain parts, and whoever we think of playing next will be the best person to come into the side to play against the opposition," the former Sri Lankan captain added.
Morris' dreadful second leg
Morris is yet to make a mark in the second leg of IPL. Morris, who was roped in by Rajasthan Royals for a whopping Rs 16.25 crores in this season's auction, bagged 14 wickets in the first phase and was handy with the bat too including a high-voltage run chase against Delhi Capitals (DC).
Morris' rough patch has been one of the reasons behind Royals' struggle. Placed at seventh place with eight points from 11 games, Royals chances of qualifying for playoffs look bleak. The winners of inaugural season need to treat their remainder of matches as must-win games to put themselves in contention to finish in top four on the table.
