Shubman Gill breaks silence on comparisons with Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, says 'you can’t really...'

With his stylish strokes and consistent output with the bat, Gujarat Titans' (GT) opening batter Shubman Gill has become the cynosure of all eyes. The elegant right-handed batter fired his franchise to yet another Indian Premier League (IPL) final and is currently gearing up to end the tournament in the same manner in which he has played throughout the season. Gill will be up against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final on May 28 (Sunday) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, a ground where the GT opener has tormented bowling attacks for fun this season.

Gill has already secured the Orange Cap this season with an aggregate of 851 runs in 16 matches. He is averaging 60.79 with the bat and has scored runs at a strike rate of 156.43. The right-handed batter has smashed four fifties and three centuries this season so far.

After enjoying a stellar season, Gill has earned profound praise from fans and former cricketers. Several cricket followers have been touting Gill to be Virat Kohli's successor just how the latter took the torch from legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Gill has been regarded as a generational talent. At just the age of 23 years, the stylish right-handed batter has given a solid account of his prodigious talent.

Reacting to his comparisons with greats like Sachin and Virat, Gill spoke about how certain cricketing moments have inspired different generations of cricketers.

"The generation that all of these people - Sachin sir (Tendulkar) sir, Virat (Kohli) bhai, Rohit Sharma - have inspired is beyond. Had we not won the 1983 World Cup, had there been a Sachin Tendulkar? No. Had we not won the 2011 World Cup, would I be as inspired? Maybe, maybe not. These kinds of legacies are immortal, you can’t really define them," ANI quoted Gill as saying.

Gill will be seen in action on May 29 (Monday) when Gujarat Titans take on Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
