Shubman Gill belted his maiden century couple of days back in Gujarat Titans' (GT) winning cause against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 15 . Shubman struck a scintillating 101 off 58 to help GT score a challenging total of 188/9. In reply, already eliminated SRH were restricted to just 154/9, thanks to Bhuvneshwar Kumar's fantastic fifer (5/30).
Gill boasts of a great track record in Ahmedabad as he has always scored runs on the very venue. In February 2023, Gill whacked his maiden T20I ton in the match against New Zealand. He followed it up with another century on the same venue but this time in the red-ball format. And three months later he added another one for Gujarat Titans in his century cabinet . On Monday, Gill just added to his love story with Ahmedabad by scoring his maiden IPL ton.
Meanwhile former India's explosive batter Virender Sehwag lavished massive praise on Gill's magnificent knock.
"This was the biggest chapter added (in the love story between Shubman Gill and Ahmedabad). I would rather say that it's now a marriage. The love story has transformed into marriage. It looked like he was batting on a completely different surface. He was scoring boundaries easily but all other batters were struggling," Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
"We have been talking about Shubman for a long time. This year he scored a hundred in T20Is and Tests, has a double hundred in ODI and now scored a century in IPL as well," Sehwag concluded.
Gill took just 22 balls to bring his half century and completed his century in 56 balls and became the first batter to crack a century for GT. Now Gill has hammered a century across all formats including IPL. Riding on a splendid century Gill also amassed 500-run in IPL 2023. Notably the defending champions GT have already qualified for the IPL 2023's playoffs as the table-toppers have 18 points in 13 matches.
