Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered their first win of the second phase of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 with a convincing win over Rajasthan Royals (RR). Chasing a target of 165 at Dubai International Cricket stadium, SRH finished the task with nine balls to spare on the back of half-centuries from opener Jason Roy and skipper Kane Williamson.
Williamson among runs again
Williamson finished the run chase in style getting to his second half-century of the season. Williamson remained unbeaten till the end ensuring that SRH get over the line with nine balls to spare. The Kiwi skipper came back in form too late as SRH don’t have a realistic chance of qualifying for their playoffs. He had help from Abhishek Sharma at the other end as he did the bulk of scoring.
Roy does the damage
SRH finally gave English opener a chance picking him of David Warner. Roy repaid the faith of team management by scoring 60 runs from 42 deliveries in the run chase off to an ideal start. His innings included eight fours and one six. The attacking opener got the required run rate down to just above six runs per over before losing his wicket to Chetan Sakariya while scooping a harmless delivery going down the leg side.
Milestones for Samson
Once again, Sanju Samson led his batting lineup from the front. Coming in to bat in the second over, Samson attacked SRH bowlers and stitched a crucial 56-run second-wicket partnership with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Samson’s 82-run knock from 57 balls included seven fours and three sixes. He failed to finish on a high as he got out in the last over with four balls left in the innings. During his innings, he became the leading run-getter (433 runs) of the season. He also became the leading run-scorer against SRH in IPL with 615 runs to his name.
Royals hurt their playoffs chances
RR are now in the seventh place on the points table missing a golden chance to have an edge over three other teams with eight points from 10 games. Their net run rate also took a hit. Only Mumbai Indians have an inferior rate on the points table.
