T Natarajan’s short-term Covid-19 replacement, Umran Malik made an impact straightaway with his raw pace on his Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 debut. Malik bowled the fastest delivery of IPL 2021 by and Indian bowler clocking at 151.03 kmph. Currently, it is the seventh-fastest ball of the season.

Malik in his debut spell bowled in high 140s and crossed the 150 kmph on a couple of occasions. The Jammu & Kashmir fast bowler was introduced in the fourth over where he bowled fast to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) openers Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer but gave 10 runs. However, he did well after the powerplay overs giving 17 runs from the remaining three overs.

The 21-year-old’s 151.03 kmph delivery is the fastest delivery by an Indian in IPL in two years. In 2019, Navdeep Saini bowled a 152.85kmph delivery. Saini bowled four deliveries which were in the top 10 fastest balls in the pre-Covid IPL season.

In this season, the second-fastest ball by an Indian bowler was bowled by Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) Mohammed Siraj. The fast bowler bowled a 147.68 kmph delivery which is narrowly followed by SRH’s left-arm fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed’s 147.38 kmph ball.
