Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) celebrated their narrow win over Delhi Capitals (DC) to enter their third Indian Premier League (IPL) final. However, the franchise will be concerned over the fitness of their mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who limped off the field during the second qualifier in Sharjah.
The star spinner, who picked up two important wickets of Delhi openers Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw, was seen limping off the field after bowling his quota of overs with KKR’s physio.
While the franchise will be keeping a close eye on the leg-spinner, his fitness will be a big concern for team India ahead of the T20 World Cup, which is slated to begin from October 17 in the UAE and Oman. The 30-year-old is a part of the 15-member Indian squad for the T20 World Cup.
It was reported that the Tamil Nadu bowler was facing issues with his knees resulting in immense pain and was given pain-killing injections to control the pain in order to play the IPL 2021. A source in the past had revealed to PTI about Varun’s dodgy knees and that they weren’t in the greatest of condition and their first priority was to get the KKR bowler in shape.
Chakravarthy has made it to the T20 World Cup squad owing to his brilliant form in the IPL 2021 with his 18 wickets in 16 fixtures. But, if he is not fit enough then the BCCI still has till October 15 to make changes in the squad.
