Virat Kohli's DuckTales continue, fails to score single run against SRH in IPL 2022

SportsTak

Virat Kohli's dreadful run in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 does not seem to be ending. On May 8 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, Kohli got out for his third golden duck of the season. This time it was Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) uncapped left-arm spinner Jagadeesha Suchith who got the better of him.

The dismissal

On the first ball of the innings, Kohli got out off a nothing delivery. A delivery that was drifting towards his pads was flicked straight to Williamson at short mid-wicket. The former RCB skipper could not believe what he had done as he did a facepalm on his way back to the pavilion.

No run against SRH

The 33-year-old is yet to score a single run against Kane Williamson-led side in the ongoing season. In the previous clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Hyderabad-based franchise, Marco Jansen got his wicket. Jansen forced Kohli to come forward and the edge carried to first slip fielder.

Long list of records

Before IPL 2022, Kohli had just three golden ducks since he made his debut for RCB in the inaugural edition. With his third duck, Kohli equalled West Indies pacer Ravi Rampaul's nine-year-old record. Rampaul registered three ducks in the 2013 season. Anuj Rawat has got out for three ducks in this season as well. Also, Kohli has had three ducks in a season in the 2014 edition.

On the other end, Suchith became the first ever spinner in IPL history to dismiss the league's leading run-scorer for a golden duck. The list of records did not end there. SRH became the first team to dismiss Kohli for multiple golden ducks in IPL.

Kohli’s troubling run

The former Indian skipper has scored 216 runs from 12 innings at an average of 19.64. He has just one half-century in the season and even that was not convincing as his strike rate was convinced. The last time he had an average below 20 was in the 2008 season.

Concerns for T20 World Cup

Kohli’s form has not been great on international stage either. Ahead of T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, his form is a major concern while other batters warm the benches.
